After news broke last night that Manchester City have sacked manager Roberto Mancini, we all knew who would replace him in the dugout next season and it will be non-other than Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini. The 59 year old Chilean manager is very highly rated both in South America and in Spain, so much so as a matter of fact that Barcelona were even considering taking him in when Pep Guardiola departed the club. In recent years Pellegrini has proved he’s got the eye and experience to make his teams perform to maximum potential as he’s showed with Villareal, Real Madrid and now Malaga.
He’s also got a knack for bringing the best out of players, as he’s coached some top class names like Juan Roman Riquelme, Diego Forlan, Juan Pablo Sorin, Santi Cazorla and now Isco. And though some may have doubts about his transition to English football, hey, at least he speaks proper English. And he’ll also be a hit with the media because of his very respectful and calm nature. City officials have told Pellegrini and his people that not only do they want short term success and adding new top names, but also the style of play and more youth development is required from the new boss and his staff. There’s no denying this man has what it takes to succeed in England, but will he be able to face the pressure? After all, he did help Real Madrid get their highest points tally ever in one season (96). But then again, they didn’t win the league that year. It’s all geared to be a very interesting campaign next season at the City of Manchester.
